Brother SE700 Walking Foot and Quilting Feet: What Brother Lists

Brother lists a walking foot for the Brother SE700. The SA140 Walking Foot (F033N) appears in Brother's optional feet list for the SE700, and the product page for the SA140 includes the SE700 in its For Use With list. It is not among the feet packed with the machine, so it is an optional purchase.[1][2][3]

The two Brother lists agree on the walking foot but not on the free motion foot. The SA129 Quilting Foot appears on the SE700 support list, while the product page for the SA129 does not name the SE700. Both are reported below as Brother printed them, followed by the full list of quilting and piecing feet and a note on what the embroidery area of the Brother SE700 does and does not mean for quilting.[1][2][4]

Does the SE700 take a walking foot?

  • Brother's optional feet list for the Brother SE700 includes the SA140 Walking Foot (F033N), described as useful for sewing multiple layers as in quilting.[2]
  • The product page for the SA140 Walking Foot includes the Brother SE700 in its For Use With list.[3]
  • None of the feet packed with the Brother SE700 is a walking foot. The packed feet are the zigzag foot, monogramming foot, overcasting foot, zipper foot, blind stitch foot, button fitting foot, buttonhole foot and embroidery foot.[1]
  • The product page for the SA140 is titled for 7mm stitch width sewing machines and does not state the stitch width of the Brother SE700, so confirm the match in the operation manual before buying.[3]

Which quilting feet Brother lists for the SE700

  • SA125 / F001N, 1/4 inch Piecing Foot: for quilt and patchwork piecing with 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch seam allowance.[2]
  • SA185 / F057, 1/4 inch Piecing Foot with Guide: for sewing an accurate 1/4 inch (6.4mm) or 1/8 inch (3.2mm) seam allowance.[2]
  • SA132 / F016N, Quilting Guide: to set precise distance from one point to another.[2]
  • SA187 / F061, Open Toe Quilting Foot: the opening on the foot gives wide visibility.[2]
  • SA129 / F005N, Quilting Foot: spring action foot for darning, quilting or free-motion embroidery. The product page for the SA129 lists it as a Free Motion Foot, and it does not name the SE700 there (see the next section).[2][4]
  • SA140 / F033N, Walking Foot: for sewing or quilting on fabrics which stick or tend to slip, useful for sewing multiple layers as in quilting.[2]
  • SA188 / F062, Open Toe Walking Foot: the open front gives greater visibility.[2]
  • SAQKIT, Quilting Accessory Set: includes useful sewing feet for quilting.[2]
  • SAFMGRIP / FMG2 / FMG2AP, Free Motion Guide Grip: keeps the fabric taut and helps as you sew free motion embroidery.[2]
  • SA101 / F085 / F085AP, Dynamic Walking Foot Set: includes 2 interchangeable soles. The standard sole helps smooth fabric feeding, and the Open Toe sole is for decorative stitches.[2]
  • SA215 / F086 / F086AP, Interchangeable Toe Set for Dynamic Walking Foot: designed for the Dynamic Walking Foot.[2]

Where Brother's two lists differ

Brother's SE700 optional feet list includes the SA129 / F005N Quilting Foot. The product page for the SA129 Free Motion Foot, with its For Use With list as printed on 27 October 2026, does not name the Brother SE700. For that model it reads: not listed by Brother: check your manual or Brother support.[2][4]

The product page for the SA140 Walking Foot, with its For Use With list as printed on the same date, does name the Brother SE700. So Brother's two lists point in different directions for the Quilting Foot (SA129), and neither list settles which one is correct.[2][3][4]

Before you buy the Quilting Foot (SA129) for a Brother SE700, confirm with Brother support or check the operation manual for the machine.

What the 4 x 4 inch embroidery area means for quilting

Brother's page for the Brother SE700 gives a maximum embroidery area of 4" x 4" and a 6.4" x 4.0" work area. Brother presents the machine for children's clothes, minor apparel repairs and warm home decor.[1]

Brother does not give a quilting size for the Brother SE700, so the 4" x 4" figure describes the embroidery field only and does not state how large a quilt the machine can handle.[1]

Independent sites treat the 4" x 4" field as a limit for larger work. Maria Sew, an independent blog, lists the Brother SE700's small hoop as too small for big quilt blocks. Bobbinhub, an independent comparison, says the embroidery field on the Brother SE700 is locked at 4" x 4" and that a larger hoop does not change it.[5][6]

How to confirm a foot fits your machine

  1. Find the foot's code, such as SA140 or F033N, in the optional feet list on Brother's support page for the Brother SE700.[2]
  2. Open that foot's product page on Brother's website and check whether the Brother SE700 appears in its For Use With list.[3][4]
  3. Check the operation manual included with the Brother SE700 for the correct foot, since Brother advises checking the manual or the machine listings to find the right walking foot.[1][3]
  4. If the support list and the product page disagree, or the model is missing from a list, contact Brother support before you buy. Brother's wording for a missing model is not listed by Brother: check your manual or Brother support.[2][4]

Common mistakes with a walking foot

Brother says walking feet are not for use in reverse or side-to-side sewing. Brother also says some built-in stitches are not for the walking foot, namely those that move the feed dogs in some direction other than forward.[3]

Before you sew a decorative or built-in stitch with the SA140 Walking Foot on your Brother SE700, check the built-in stitch list in the operation manual to see whether that stitch moves the fabric only forward.[1]

Is the SE700 a good fit for quilters?

  • It suits you if you want a sewing and embroidery machine for piecing and machine quilting and are happy to buy extra feet, since the Brother SE700 support list names the 1/4 inch Piecing Foot (SA125), the Walking Foot (SA140) and the Quilting Foot (SA129) as optional feet.[2]
  • It suits you if you plan to use a walking foot for matching prints or plaids, because Brother says the SA140 Walking Foot is great for matching prints or plaids, for fabric drift and for quilting.[3]
  • It suits you if your quilting does not need an embroidered design larger than 4" x 4", since the Brother SE700's maximum embroidery area is 4" x 4".[1]
  • Skip it if you want to embroider large quilt blocks or jacket backs, because Maria Sew calls the area too small for those, and Bobbinhub says the 4" x 4" field cannot be enlarged with a bigger hoop.[5][6]
  • Skip it if you need the Quilting Foot (SA129) and have not confirmed it fits, because Brother's two lists disagree about whether the Brother SE700 is compatible with it.[2][4]
  • Skip it if you need a quilting size or throat space for the Brother SE700, because Brother's page gives only the embroidery and work areas.[1]

What we could not confirm

  • Whether the SA129 Quilting Foot is compatible with the Brother SE700: Brother's support list includes it, but the SA129 product page does not name the Brother SE700, and the two lists as printed on 27 October 2026 do not agree.
  • The stitch width of the Brother SE700, and whether it falls within the 7mm stitch width that the SA140 Walking Foot page is titled for.
  • A quilting size or throat space for the Brother SE700: Brother gives only its embroidery area and work area.
  • Which built-in stitches the Brother SE700 offers that are unsuitable with the walking foot: check the operation manual.
  • Whether Brother's lists have changed since 27 October 2026.
