Brother SE2000 vs SE700: What Changes and Which One Fits Your Projects

The Brother SE2000 and the Brother SE700 are both listed by Brother as combination sewing and embroidery machines. The practical gap is the embroidery area: the Brother SE2000 listing gives 5" x 7" and the Brother SE700 listing gives 4" x 4", which decides whether a larger design can be stitched in one go.[1][2]

Square Verdict has not tested either machine. This comparison uses only Brother's published specifications and included accessories, names where other sites disagree, and keeps opinions attributed to whoever holds them.

Where the two machines really differ

The embroidery area sets the largest design you can stitch in one go. The Brother SE2000 listing gives 5" x 7" and the Brother SE700 listing gives 4" x 4", with no larger hoop named for the Brother SE700. Bobbinhub says that buying a bigger hoop does not change the Brother SE700's 4" x 4" field, and that splitting a larger design in software can leave visible seam lines.[1][2][3]

Brother lists Jump Stitch Trimming for the Brother SE2000, and its product page for the Brother SE700 does not list the feature. Bobbinhub says the Brother SE2000 cuts jump stitches as it stitches, while on the Brother SE700 they are snipped by hand after the design is finished. That is one site's account, and Brother's pages do not confirm it either way for the Brother SE700.[1][2][3]

The two sources disagree on built-in designs. Brother lists 193 built-in embroidery designs for the Brother SE2000 and 135 for the Brother SE700, while Bobbinhub gives 138 for the Brother SE2000 and 103 for the Brother SE700. Brother's figures come from the maker, but neither source explains the gap, so check the current count on the Brother product page before you buy.[1][2][3]

The Brother SE2000 listing gives compatibility with a 4" x 7" Brother magnetic hoop, and the Brother SE700 listing names no magnetic hoop. A reviewer writing on Sewing Machine Fun says a magnetic hoop helps if you plan to quilt with an embroidery machine, while adding that it is not perfect. Brother's pages do not say how the hoop performs on quilted layers.[1][2][4]

The Brother SE2000 has more built-in sewing stitches, 241 against 103 for the Brother SE700. Brother also lists one-step auto-size buttonholes and the My Custom Stitch feature for the Brother SE2000, along with a 3.7 inch LCD color display. None of these appears on the product page for the Brother SE700, which does not mean that machine lacks them.[1][2]

The Brother SE700 and the Brother SE2000 each include eight presser feet with the same names. Both are listed with wireless LAN, Design Database Transfer and the Artspira App. Neither included-accessory list names embroidery stabilizer, and a reviewer on Sewing Machine Fun writes that you need it before a first embroidery project, along with machine embroidery needles and thread.[1][2][4]

Which one for which sewing room

For piecing and machine quilting on a domestic machine, Brother's pages for the Brother SE700 and the Brother SE2000 do not describe quilting performance, throat space or feed system. Neither included-accessory list names a walking foot or a free-motion quilting foot. Compare those points on the manufacturer's pages before you decide, because the documented differences here concern embroidery, stitches and features rather than quilting.[1][2]

If your embroidery includes designs wider than 4" x 4", such as a large block motif or a border, the Brother SE2000 is the one whose documented embroidery area covers them, since the Brother SE2000 listing gives 5" x 7".[1][2]

If you mainly want small embroidery, the Brother SE700 covers the 4" x 4" area given in the Brother SE700 listing. Bobbinhub describes the Brother SE700 as suited to personalized gifts, baby clothes and pocket logos.[2][3]

If you want the larger stitch library for sewing, the Brother SE2000 lists 241 built-in sewing stitches against 103 for the Brother SE700.[1][2]

Can the Brother SE700 stitch larger than 4" x 4" with a bigger hoop?

Does the Brother SE2000 cut jump stitches automatically?

Brother lists Jump Stitch Trimming for the Brother SE2000, and Bobbinhub says it cuts jump stitches automatically as the design stitches. The listing for the Brother SE700 does not name the feature, and Bobbinhub says its jump stitches are snipped by hand.[1][2][3]

Neither included-accessory list on Brother's pages names embroidery stabilizer. A reviewer on Sewing Machine Fun writes that you need it before a first project, along with machine embroidery needles and thread.[1][2][4]

Can either machine be used for quilting?

Brother's pages for both machines do not describe quilting performance, throat space or feed system, so this comparison cannot answer that question. Check those points on the manufacturer's pages before buying.[1][2]

What we could not confirm

  • Quilting performance, throat space, feed system and quilting feet are not described on Brother's pages for either the Brother SE700 or the Brother SE2000, so check them before buying for piecing and machine quilting.
